Your Google Fi account and phone number move with you — you just need to activate the new phone in the Google Fi app. Follow the steps for your phone below. If mobile data or picture messages don't work afterward, the APN fix takes two minutes.
Pick your phone type. Your old phone stays on the account as an inactive device — nothing to do there.
Activation downloads a mobile plan over the internet, so join a strong Wi-Fi network first. Keep Wi-Fi on for the whole process.
Download Google Fi from the App Store and open it. Sign in with the same Google account your Fi service is on.
The app checks your iPhone and iOS version automatically. When it offers “Download eSIM”, tap it — the plan installs itself, no QR code needed on iOS 17.4 or later. Then restart the iPhone when asked.
After the restart, open the Google Fi app again and complete the last screens: your E911 emergency address and Wi-Fi calling. Then send a test text and make a test call.
Join a strong Wi-Fi network — activation downloads your plan from Google's servers.
Get Google Fi from the Play Store, open it, and sign in with the same Google account your Fi service is on. If it asks to update the phone first, let it update, restart, and come back to the app.
Tap through the on-screen steps — the app moves your number to the new phone by eSIM automatically. If you have a physical Fi SIM instead, move it into the new phone's SIM tray first, then run the app.
The APN is the setting that tells your phone how to reach Google Fi's data network. It usually sets itself up — but if mobile data doesn't work or picture messages (MMS) won't send, entering it by hand fixes it. Tap any value below to copy it, then paste it into the matching field on your phone.
On iPhone go to Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data Network and fill in these fields exactly:
Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data Network. You'll see three groups: Cellular Data, LTE Setup, and MMS.
On Android go to Settings → Network & internet → SIMs (or Mobile network), tap Access Point Names, tap + to add a new one, and fill in these fields:
In Access Point Names, tap the + at the top. Type each value from the card above into the matching field — Name can be anything, but APN must be exactly h2g2.
Tap the ⋮ menu → Save. Back on the APN list, tap the radio button next to “Google Fi” so it becomes the active one. Then restart the phone.
Make a test call and send a test text (plus one picture message). If all three work, you're done.
Restart the phone once after activation — this fixes most “no data” cases on its own.
Wait 5–20 minutes after the restart. Data is often the last thing to switch on.
Check the Fi app — open it and make sure it shows your number as active, not “activation incomplete.”
On iPhone: make sure Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data is ON and the Fi line is selected for data.
Still stuck? In the Google Fi app tap Support for live chat, or call 1-844-TALK-2-FI. They can re-push activation to the phone.
